Effective Immediately (Preparation on the day of your tattoo)

  • Ensure you have something to eat before your tattoo and bring water, juice and snacks with you.

  • Do not take any blood thinning medications, such as Aspirin before your tattoo. (Please discuss with your doctor if you are on any prescribed blood thinning medication prior to getting a tattoo.)

  • Do not drink alcohol, or take drugs before your tattoo.

  • Personal Hygiene - Before arriving at your tattoo appointment, please ensure you have had a shower, and you wear appropriate clothing for the area being tattooed. Your tattoo artist has to sit with you for hours, so please be courteous and ensure the body odor level is at a minimum. Please do not shave the area prior to your appointment, as your artist will do that for you to avoid razor burn or skin irritation. (Regular leg shaving is fine beforehand.)

  • You may be sitting for a while, so please bring something to occupy yourself. ie: book, iPod, phone, headphones, etc.

Aftercare

  • No swimming, saunas, hot tubs, or baths for the first 2 weeks or until all scabs have completely fallen off.

  • Wash tattoo once a day in the shower. Please keep showers quick, as you do not want to over soak your tattoo.

  • Wash with a mild bar soap, ie: Ivory or Dove.

  • Once out of the shower, pat dry and let air dry for ½ hour before applying lotion.

  • First day of healing (the day after your tattoo), wash your tattoo. Make sure you remove all blood and vaseline off. Dry it well.

  • Wait 4 days before applying any lotion to your tattoo, to allow for a bit of air dry healing. Apply fragrance free (unscented) Aveno hand lotion to tattoo once a day. Apply only a small amount. Rub lotion in so that you cannot see any lotion left over. Please wash your hands thoroughly before applying lotion.

  • DO NOT use any petroleum based ointments such as Polysporin, Vaseline, Vitamin E, etc., as this will not allow for your scab to properly form, and will prolong healing, and can cause pigment to leach out.

  • Your bandage will be applied by your artist, and MUST stay on for 24 hours. This is so the bandage can wick up as much blood and lymphatic fluid as possible within that time. You will notice your tattoo will scab less, if you keep the bandage on for the duration of the first 24 hours.

  • DO NOT re-bandage after the 24 hours. If you work in a dirty environment, please be cautious, and cover tattoo with a tighter fitting garment, such as long john underwear. Do not wear anything containing too much clothing lint, as this can stick to a healing tattoo.

  • DO NOT pick or scratch at the tattoo. As much as it would feel amazing to scratch your fresh and itchy tattoo, please refrain from doing this. You may lightly slap tattoo to alleviate any itchiness.

  • Please be extra careful during the healing process. Try to avoid sudden movements, exercising, and sweating if possible. Your fresh tattoo will have a pulling/tight feel on your skin, and if you overstretch your skin too quickly, you may wind up with a crack in your scab, which can bleed, and pull colour out within that crack of skin.

  • Over-sweating and over exposure to moisture will cause your scab to get really crusty, which will prolong your healing, and will compromise the colour. Be careful.

  • If you have any CATS please be cautious. Cats are in and out of their litter boxes all day, and carry fecal matter and urine on their fur. Cat fur is a tattoo’s worst enemy. Even a couple strands can cause a major infection. Change your bed linens, and be cautious with your fresh tattoo around your cat(s) during the healing process.

  • DO NOT let your friends and/or family members touch your tattoo while healing. Who knows where their hands have been!
